About BiminiIslands.com
BiminiIslands.com is a visitor guide to Bimini, Bahamas: how to get there from Florida, what the weather and the sea are doing, the places, the cruise port and the businesses on the islands. It's privately owned and operated by Digified Media, a company that builds and runs local guides.
Please note: BiminiIslands.com is a privately owned visitor information site. It is not affiliated with the Government of The Bahamas, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Resorts World Bimini, or any ferry operator, airline, cruise line or marina, and it is not a NOAA or National Weather Service product.
What the site is for
People look up Bimini with a practical question. Whether to take the ferry from Fort Lauderdale or fly. Which beach or snorkel site is worth the time, or what's within reach on a cruise ship's day in port. What the forecast says, or where a storm is. For a boat out of South Florida, the wind and sea conditions along the crossing, the tides, and the rules for clearing in and fishing. And for an owner on the islands, how to get a business listing right.
Each of those questions should have one page that answers it. The homepage lists every section that's open.
How pages stay current
A written page is built to stay true without edits. Anything that changes often, such as the ferry fare, a sailing time, a flight time, a cruising-permit fee, an opening hour or a price, is left out on purpose. The page says who sets it and links to where they publish it: the ferry operator for its sailings, Bahamas Customs for the permit, the airline for its schedule.
A data page is built from a published feed. Every block on it names its source and shows when this site fetched the data, and when the source issued it where the source states that. When a feed goes quiet, the block carries on with its last good copy until that copy reaches its age limit or runs out of dates, then comes off the page, and the link to the official source stays in its place.
Weather, tides and storms
The marine pages show data from NOAA and its partners: National Weather Service grid forecasts, National Hurricane Center offshore forecasts and storm advisories, tide predictions, observations from nearby stations that NOAA's National Data Buoy Center carries, and the sea-surface temperature from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Each block carries its source, and its issue time where the source states one. Next to it are links to the Bahamas Department of Meteorology, which publishes the official Bahamian forecast, and the National Hurricane Center. The National Weather Service zone at Bimini excludes Bahamian waters. That is why the Bahamian forecast sits beside every block.
Watches and warnings appear here exactly as the NHC states them, with the advisory number and issue time.
The decision about a crossing belongs to you and your captain, and it is made on the official forecast.
Where the information comes from
Every fact in a written page is checked against a primary source before it goes up: the operator's own pages, a government or scientific source, open data or OpenStreetMap. Where primary sources disagree, the page says so and gives each reading. The sources behind the data pages, and the credit each one asks for, are on the data sources page. Pages are published under the BiminiIslands.com Editorial byline.
